Guided Reading Levels
Guided Reading Levels are the different grades used by the teachers to develop the reading skills in children. Every reading level consists of set of different books. These books are capable of teaching the various reading techniques to children according to their age. The lists of such books are available at the start of academic year of the student at the school. The reading levels become more progressed and superior every year as child passes from one class to other. When a child from sixth class passes to next class they are well prepared with all the reading knowledge required to successfully study the subjects of the higher grades. Guided reading levels have quality standard that are laid down by the education department.
Reading Levels:
There are different reading levels that include customized lessons which are as follows:
- Pre-School (Kindergarten): The pre-school reading level is the beginning level that has the fundamental lessons or data that a child needs to understand. It includes books on alphabets and numbers to acquaint them to read and write. Sentences generally comprises of two or three words. These books contain pictures of animals, fruits, flowers and colors. Pre-school guided reading levels have books that teach the children about various letter sounds. It helps them to understand the sounds of consonants and vowels. It also includes the use of different cubical play blocks to enhance their basic language.
- Grade first: This is the next stage and reading levels are more superior here. In this level child learns the differentiation between verbs and nouns. The entire understanding level of child depends on how fairly they have grasped the reading skills in pre-school. The books in this guided reading levels includes sophisticated stories and different poems. It also enables the child to express their learning through short essays. Children at this stage understand the characters in stories and poems.
- Grade second: This grade reading levels have even more superior syllabus than the previous grades. Here the child learns to answer the questions based on the characters in stories they study in class. They can describe the story and lesson learnt. Thus, knowledge of reading takes a boost at this level amongst the children.
